Bold and unconventional jewellery by Stinne Holm
Stinne Holm has her own jewellery studio in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. Always on the lookout for new inspiration, her unique designs are characterized by simple, graphic lines Stinne produces sculptural collections of rings, earrings, bangles, necklaces and pendants. Her creative drive comes from the pleasure of challenging herself and her clients to make a strong statement in any situation.
Fascinated by her work, and wanting to know a bit more about her creative world, I reached out to Stinne and this is what she had to say.
Object of Reference: What’s in the core of your designs and your brand?
Stinne Holm: The core in my designs is very Scandinavian I think. Simple, minimalistic but also raw and edgy.
Object of Reference: Tell me a little bit about yourself. What is you background and have you always wanted to be involved with jewellery?
Stinne Holm: I started my own company almost 10 years ago. I think I always knew that I wanted to do my own stuff and have my own business. My apprenticeship was at a workshop, doing classic jewellery with lots of diamonds. Here I learned the old craft, the right way. Focus on the goldsmith-crafts and not the design part. Later on, when I started doing my own jewellery, this minimalistic and graphic line just came out of me, as the only right expression for me.
Object of Reference: Where do you get your inspiration? Stinne Holm: Everywhere I go, I think! Architecture and light/shadow lines inspire me. I live in the city and I notice every little detail I meet, and keep it in mind…
Object of Reference: Do you believe in following rules when it comes to jewellery design, and if so, what are these rules in your designs?
Stinne Holm: I like to think I don’t follow any rules in designing. Rules are boring. I design what I like and feel like myself, and not what’s trending. That’s very important to me.
Object of Reference: What would your advice be for someone who would like to start in this industry?
Stinne Holm: Be faithful to your own style and expression! That’s the most important. Everybody can make what has already been made before…
Object of Reference: What would be your dream project to work on? Stinne Holm: A greater showpiece for an inspiring artist.
Object of Reference: What are you working on at the moment, and what are your creative plans for the future? Stinne Holm: At the moment I’m working on my new ‘Patch’ collection. A collection where I work with surface and texture and soft lines, but still with the raw touch. After this collection, only time will show...
